I actually agree with Mag. Much of modern art is dumb and/or retarded. Its based on hype, promotion, marketing more than talent or meaning. Example: I was at the San Francisco museum of modern art with a friend years ago. A woman was handing out programs for a film they were about to show. She breathlessly told us that it was made by a man who had been a male model and a former college football player. Well gee golly jeepers! How exciting. We went in to see it, and were introduced to the wonders of Matthew Barney and one of his Cremaster films. It was so cheesy, overwrought, weird, and soulless; testicles descending on the surface of some racing leathers as a motorcyclist rode along the isle of mann. As a scientist and artist I got the physiological references but as a film it did not uplift me or make me reassess the world I live in. The screen went dark and my friend and I assumed the film was over so we left. As we left the auditorium we heard the film start up again. I would say that is the sign of bad art, when you leave by mistake because the film seems over and you don't even care that you missed the last third of it. So needless to say, Mag, your words resonate with me. A whole lot of bunkum out there...
