This documentary is amazing. These women are so strong and so beautiful, doing their best in an impossible circumstance that is horrible no matter how you look at it. And I'm also wowed by the doctors and nurses who treat these women--they have truly big hearts.Sadly, these doctors and nurses can do only so much. The ultimate way of dealing with this "silent epidemic" is education. How many of these cases would have been prevented if there was a ban on child marriages that was strictly enforced? How many of these women would have had to suffer if the condition wasn't so stigmatized through ignorance?

This was a great show and i enjoyed it as I remember my own time in the hospital in Kenya. I guess the first thing which i noticed was how wonderful the hospital looked. And only in the expensive private hospitals in Kenya do you have one patient per bed. My wife told me that at times 3 people share a bed. When i visited my sister in law in the hospital the whole ward had 2 women per bed. One lies one way and the other the other way. And there is corruption everywhere from teachers to Doctors. We see Doctors and teachers as role models but in Kenya and I am sure else where the whole system is corrupt if you want your child in school you have to bribe the teacher. The government gives certain medicines free but the Doctors charge you for it. When I went to the hospital it was in the middle of the riots and I had to pay 5 times the normal fee for someone to take me to the hospital. When there i was not attended to until my mother in law came and guaranteed my bill. If not I would have died in the little examining room. I felt so much sympathy for these women as I traveled halfway around the world with my depends on. The worst was in Amsterdam as I had to sit on the floor waiting for the flight to London and they said unless i got up and walked alone onto the plane they would not let me fly. And so finally I am admitted and they take me to the operating room where i am given a local anesthetic while they fix my problem. I was there one day in the hospital and walked almost home the next day. Because it was so dangerous we stayed in a hotel and walked the rest of the way the next day. The people of Africa are so friendly and the families are so great. I enjoy the people constantly around me as I walk to work or where ever I go. I am a muzungo Swahili for white man. I would say 95% of the white people belong to NGO's (Non government organizations) Because in Kisumu the aids rate is so high people are constantly dying and there are aid agencies everywhere. I used to hate them because they would have $50,000 automobiles while claiming to help people. A lot of the aid goes into the foreigners pockets as cars buildings travel etc. Everyday as I walked to work the children would come up to me and say hi some just to touch me others to ask for money or shake my hand. You don't know life until you have been to Africa. Anyway i enjoyed this program so much that I cried a hundred tears and I can't wait to return to my home and begin again to share my life with my African family. A lesson we can learn from these women is strength of character and spirit, in their life-situations, they did not lose hope and kept fighting for what they wanted: a normal life. Especially Wabete, she is an amazing, beautiful and intelligent young girl with a big heart. It is unfortunate to see so many women suffer because of the unfortunate circumstances they happened to be born into (forced marriages, lack of proper health-care), being a woman is hard enough but being one who is shunned by her own family is truly heartbreaking. Those doctors are angels on earth, truly blessed individuals who do not need a price for their services aside from the happiness of their patients. This story really helps to put things in perspective.

These women who were treated so badly by their family and communities never seemed to have lost a loving spirit. I hope they will find lasting love and never feel ashamed again.
