Actually, look at the writers. It says who wrote it on every episode, and you can look on IMDB - there's a lot of the same writers on the early and the later episodes, and the producers, script editors, etc, are pretty much the same too.
Natalie has a very different personality from Sharona- they both have their strengths, and bring out different things in Monk. If you think Monk has become shallower, you haven't been watching the same show as I have - there's been a lot of very moving, touching episodes - about Monk's dad, brother, and Trudy - even "Monk Is Up All Night" two episodes ago had a surprisingly emotional ending. I'd agree Randy Disher has gotten a little more cartoonish, but he and the Captain play off each other so well, it still works in my opinion.
