Cosmos: The Backbone of Night

Listen to the doctor talk to the middle school kids at the 52-minute mark ... he tells them that by the time they are 40, we WILL have found dozens -- maybe hundreds -- of planets around other stars.

Those kids are 40 now ... and as of Nov. 11, 2010, the exo-planet count is 496.

The methods for planet hunting he describes to the kids aren't the methods that proved very fruitful, but he may have just been wanting to introduce the topic and demonstrate how it is even possible to conduct a planet hunt.

Once again, this show ages beautifully.

Every conclusion of every episode of this entire series gives me the goosebumps. Carl Sagan is the MAN!

One of the most wonderful shows made, I plan on sharing this with my son when he is old enough to understand. The mind blowing information along with Dr. Sagan's narriatives at times gave me chills and opened my mind. Everyone should see this in every high school science class across America.

Cosmos has been a continual source of inspiration and wonder for me. There are times that the knowledge imparted on this show, with Dr. Sagan's often poetic narratives, have literally given me chills. The Universe's majesty and immensity is truly magnificent and has revolutionized my perspective on life on earth in many ways.

This man was a genuis who was also human. He has such a wide range in relating to people, this man had a gift. His books are incredible, and Cosmos was a work of art. I could listen to Carl all day. I would have given much to meet him. I could easily say he went before his time, but that is a comment laced with a selfish wanting. However, the world lost something great in 1996 in his passing. Yet his methods, his work, and his humanity will always endure as long as people open their eyes and question what they see.

One of the more uplifting, episodes. Showing our kinds motivation in learning, down the lines of history. That still to this day exists a hunger and thirst for understanding.

Cosmos, how I love thee, such a gem in the sea of disgusting and mindless videos that consume our minds.
