many bugs with funky faces. the general did say that the earth lacked the capability of interstellar travel. but wait, after ridding themselves of the ants, they now have their ship to reverse engineer! a part two here would be for the emissary to go on a mission of piece with his sexy girlfriend sidekick to visit the zanti.

That was fun...especially the gun battle with a bunch of ants. Dig the 1960's bead curtian hanging in the control room.

All in all, this episode is good. It's that silly little monster that ruined it for me. I think that if they hadn't given it those bug-eyed eyes, I wouldn't have minded so much. Granted, this is the 60s and special effects are nowhere near what they are now but I think they could have done a tad better on that monster. However, I give the actors serious kudos for their scary faces!

Yes, according to what the Statue of Liberty says, we started out the misfit country, as did Australia--and in this picture, we're the misfit planet. Well, if the shoe fits, might as well wear it.Lots of later sci-fi episodes shipped their criminals into space or to another planet--ever see the Botany Bay Star Trek episode? If the planet gets crowded enough, and you're not sure about the death penalty, seems like that would probably happen if you could launch 'em out there.Little things can be dangerous. Remember what killed the aliens in "War of the Worlds"? Funny creepy aliens in this that should be hilarious, but with the alarming music and seriousness of the actors, the aliens are somehow still scary. With modern effects instead of crude plastic props, this could be a Hitchcock-type movie.Somehow in The Outer Limits and The Twilght Zone, the bad guys usually get their just deserts, but leave behind uncomfortable questions that make you think twice.If the Zantis ever do decide to attack us, though, no need for missiles--just an ecologically friendly spray repellent.

This is one of the "10" I deem as original Outer Limits Classics. (Architects of Fear being my ultimate favorite!) Just like the Twilight Zone, these top stories have been borrowed from and immitated many times. The Outer Limits has a Special Effects budget of about, oh, $20.50. (no joke!) Try that today! But on a 12 inch TV screen and with a darn good story, ABC showed the magic weekly for 5 seasons. All the early work of stars are here too - Bruce Dern in this one. I was a baby (infant!) when this came out, but this one scared the heck out of me seeing it later. (TNT showed this in the 1990's). I went out and bought the series a few years ago and finally got to see all of these wonderful stories uncut. Gosh, the late great Conrad Hall worked on this series, who knew?!?! Wonderful, wonderful early sci-fi/horror/supernatural seriesTV here. (P.S. Look at 'Don't Open Until Doomsday'. You'll see a film this year oddly familiar to it.)

Not sure what it is but even though the effects are really out-dated, this still freaks the hell out of me.
