Great dialogue and fast paced action, the old way. You can't beat it with today's movies. A bit simplistic sure "what of it bub".Put this movie in your queue, you won't regret it
Hitchcock's first great film, and the iconic model for his future finest.Robert Donat's best work, as well. Superb cinematography, witty script, superior acting all around, and the romantic chemistry between the two leads is delicious.A multifaceted gem based on John Buchan's espionage classic.
I really liked this Hitchcock movie... It has all of the great cinematic elements, but the suspense seems to happen at a faster pace than in other films. This does not mean I prefer this pacing over the slower building films, although it did help the ending not seem as abrupt as it was (this seems to me the case in many Hitchcock films). In this instance I enjoyed the cohesive, linear quality of the screenplay, given style and tension by a very talented director.
I find it interesting that there are so many cinematic elements in this old movie that we have seen in other later movies, and many in Hitchcock's own films. The knife in the back - North by Northwest. Hunted hero eludes police by marching in parade - The Fugitive. Hero hides in plain sight by making public spectacle in crowded public place - North by Northwest again.Classic film!
