Reportedly Orson Welles' favorite, but certainly not his best.
Patience is required to deal with the wonderfully convoluted plot; if you're not willing to pay attention, you'll easily get lost. Perhaps this film is not suited for modern audiences expecting instant gratification, nonstop action and spoon-fed plots.
Frankly, the acting by Robert Arden (Van Stratten) is horrible and the lip syncing atrocious. The artsy film-noir cinematography is a bit heavy handed at times.
Otherwise, great film; "must see" for noir fans.
