I am glad they bothered to go through an entire season. This show had so much potential but whoever was in charge of the writing messed up big time. I am no writer but as someone who has watched tv for a long time, I can safely assume I am an authority :D
One hour episodes are too short for the amount of material they were dealing with. They should have expanded it to 2 hours. TAKEN was done the same way a couple of years ago and aired on the SciFi Channel, and the storied did not seem hurried and compressed as is the case with Kings. Just because a show has the characters saying compelling lines in sequence does not mean that the show is well written.
Most of the characters are written to seem very deep but the end result is that they all seem schizophrenic. The only one who seems the same throught is the main character, David, who is consistently stupid all the way through. I have not watched the series finale but I can assure myself he will remain stupid and naive. Watching the show feels like being rushed to read a good novel, and you end up skipping vital chapters just to get the gist of the story.
Just because you throw together the old testament, current events, and a fictional city that looks like NY city does not mean the show is great. They should have bothered to ask for help from the writers of BSG, they did a better job at combining many things. It's always sad to see a show with such great potential being ruined by restrictions on air time, poor writing, and most of all, a network willing to present a product as garrish as this. This show is like an overly made up prostitute sitting on a ledge(read Jezebel) screaming about how she can do this and do that. The audience is not seduced but completely turned off.
Someone else needs to redo this concept and please, take it away from network tv. All they ever seem to do is ruin good ideas.
