I'll admit that during the first 10 minutes or so, I was considering giving up on the movie. Well, I'm glad I stuck it out, despite my initial hesitations. Yes, I was aware of the subject matter prior to watching it, since I've heard writer/director Bobcat Goldthwaite discuss the film in various interviews. However, the execution of the opening gags was a bit too crude for my taste. I'm no prude and have quite an R-rated sense of humor myself, but I tend to enjoy sex gags more when they're not over-the-top and rely more on innuendo than graphic references. As I said, the film redeemed itself as it progressed. The comedy is surprisingly character-driven. There were just a few crude gags and some farcical dialogue that felt out of place in this otherwise witty, well-written comedy. When you think of Bobcat, you think of the screechy-voiced buffoon from "Police Academy." Therefore, the fact that he was able to pull of making a smart comedy that is almost a Bizarro version of the goofy tripe that he usually stars in is quite impressive (Like Bobcat said in one interview, "I was in movies that I would've never watched, if I wasn't in them"). The cast is primarily composed of either unknowns or little-known character actors. Most of them did a solid job. It made sense that Geoff Pierson had a pretty big role, considering he was on "Unhappily Ever After" with Bobcat. Those who are accustomed to seeing him as the Al-Bundy-like Jack Malloy will most likely be pleasantly surprised by his performance. The man has some great dramatic chops, as you'll primarily towards the end of the film. Also, comedian Brian Posehn has some hilarious and scene-stealing moments. This is not a perfect film, by any means. I didn't laugh multiple times, but the laughs I did get were earned honestly. In other words, this is not some silly comedy where characters are constantly doing cheap pratfalls and blurting out smart-aleck one-liners to squeeze cheap laughs out of the audience. As a matter of fact, the film takes a pretty serious turn in the third act. But that's what character comedy is all about. If you're expecting "Corky Romano," please look elsewhere.

It flowed well, the story was simple but the dark spots made it interesting. Secrets are great, everyone needs to keep some.

This movie is a riot! It will definitely make you feel better about yourself if you're feeling down. ;-)

I don´t agree with the "is important to lie" part, but I do agree that you DON'T have to say EVERYTHING to your loved ones. There are some things better left unsaid, they are better saved up in the "unmentionable" box in your memory and throw away the key. Even when people beg like the character John did, to know her deep dark secret, they don't really know for sure that they want to hear it. They don't really know if they'll be able to take it. We know what our loved ones are capable of tolerating, even if it's something stupid and meaningless. The mom character did the right thing. She did some things that she didn't want her husband to know, and never told him. She told her daughter because she knew that her daughter could handle it. And the main character did the right thing at the end when her dad asked if she knew if her mom had slept with anyone else before him, she said no, even though she knew that in fact her mother had. She knew her dad wouldn't be able to handle it. What people don't know can't hurt them :)

let this be a lesson,, just when you think it can get no worse it can.. no body deserves to be put on a pedestal,, and to many men do just that,, put your women on this princess like status,, only to be dissapointed,, to find out there a trailer trash queen,, i am so happy being single,, and this movie just reaffirms any lonely notion's i have left,, the only person to dissapoint me is me,, and i dont have to worry about the mail man knocking up my woman while im out of town,, and me geting stuck raising the kid like a chump,,
LET ALONE THE DOG!! LMAO!!!

This movie was alright better than some of the other ones I have seen. The most funniest part of it all is the brother confessing his sister secret at the table! it was pretty nasty. I'am glad she found another guy. This is a good lesson to be learned certain things just can't be said.
