The pace might be slow for most viewers and the content could also be seen as either confusing or slow. But the feel of the film is fine for me. The movie is very typical of independent Asian films which is very different from the mainstream style movies that movie viewers in the US expect to see in Asian films. I don't agree with the comparison with Bollywood as that film style is about melodrama, glam, and a bit of the absurd. I guess most viewers expect things to be presented to them right away. I guess the intricacies of life have no time or place in US films. Of course there are places for improvement with this one, but I think the reviews so far have been short-sighted.
