i loved this episode for one reason. it seemed like almost a continuation of patty duke's nealey o'hara persona in valley of the dolls, one of my favorite guilty pleasures.
another reviewer commented that patty duke seemed angry in this episode. it's no wonder, lo these many years, we've learned that patty was bi-polar and suffering a nervous breakdown around this time. she was also playing mrs. robinson to desi arnaz, jr. and good ole lucy wanted her head on a platter like helen lawson from valley of the dolls...lol.
i loved patty duke in this episode and even the final scene were she ends up in the loony bin seems like serling was doing a skewed homage to valley of the dolls. i didn't think of her as a villian in this piece, but i could never think of patty as a villian because i remember how sweet she was as identical twins on the patty duke show.
virginia mayo was an old hasbeen and did not deserve any sympathy. she got exactly what she deserved. the actual treat of this episode was seeing a young lindsay wagner pre her bionic woman and jamie sommers fame. lindsay wagner had a rough life too. she was raped as a teenager and the psychological trauma of it even haunted her on the filming of bionic ever after thirty years later.
