American animated series are almost chronically afraid of mortality, perhaps a reaction to the modern attitudes toward sickness and death prevalent in western culture, where Japanese series are often more graphic in intent, if not quite so gory as might be expected. In this case the blend is a pretty good one, where some folks "luck out", while others fall prey to predators, fiends, or simple mischance. In this manner Gun Frontier very much reflects life, and it is here that its real appeal lies.
As for the blatant sexist objectification of females, well, that also well reflects the society of the times in which this series is supposedly set. As such it supplies part of the corroberative element so desperately necessary to any successful suspension of an audience's disbelief.
