This isn't quite clear to me. What if a contestant refuses to cooperate with some of Val's demands? For example, when they are told to remove their pillows one by one? What if they refuse?
We have been told that the only way to lose is to press the red button, and that they are competing only against themselves. So refusing to cooperate cannot disqualify a contestant.
Continuing this line of thinking, why did number (# - don't want to give it away) press the red button? I understand why she got out of bed, but why press the button? Why not just get out of bed and lay on the floor?
That's the flaw in the show's concept and I'm waiting for someone to figure it out.
This reminds me of something I've read about interrogation/torture techniques. The most psychologically painful tortures are the ones that the victim cooperates with. For example, if a person is told to assume a stress position and cooperates, the psychological distress is intense. But if the person refuses and is forced into the position, it is psychologically less distressing, because the prisoner can still see himself as strong and resisting.
