Roscoe Ates is at his stuttering best in Todd Browning's outré horror-fest "Freaks" and King Vidor's tear-jerker "The Champ". William Demarest, graciously ignoring his role in "My 3 Sons", is best remembered for his work ("The Lady Eve", "Sullivan's Travels") with Preston Sturges, whose mother, Mary Desti, used to "pal around with (spiritual) terrorist" Aleister Crowley. Ben Johnson, a Cherokee, was a mainstay in Westerns, including John Ford's "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" and "Fort Apache". He was in George Steven's "Shane" and the only film Brando directed, "One-Eyed Jacks", as well as Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch". He won an Oscar for his supporting role in Bogdanovich's "The Last Picture Show".
