There was only handfull of actress in hollywood that had great presence. Sadly most of the truely great ones have pasted away.

Bette, the glorious poodle, and the sets/wardrobe are beautiful......the killer is beastly (if long-suffering.) Leave it to Hitch to equally delight and repel!

Davis' performance here is an amalgam of her worst mannerisms, including the sing-song voice that became more exaggerated as the years progressed. I just don't understand why she had any respect at all, as an actress. She gave some superb performances between 1937 and 1942, and after that there were no more characterizaations, just variations on Bette Davis. Her voice here is like nails on a blackboard.

i have had a love affair with ms. davis ever since i saw her in jezebel and it continued with the letter, the little foxes, another man's poison, all about eve, old acquaintance and of course, whatever happened to baby jane where she did indeed kick joan crawford's butt all over the parlor floor...lol.

if that guy had been smart he would have given bette a piece of jewelry...something hard and firm that an older woman might appreciate. something she could wrap her fingers around, stroke and polish until it exploded with brilliance...lol...that's one way to get $50.

Bette was postively brilliant and fun to watch, as always, as the rich ecentric and aging widow and apt named Miss Fox. She refuses to lend $50 to Eddie to help pay for his terminally ill girlfriend's medical expenses. She was smitten with the youthful tall and handsome Eddie the bell boy, and wasn't about to aid in his fiancee's recovery. She played the jealous b*tch role with a subtle, superficially naive, quiet vengeance. Only Bette could have mastered a complex role like that and pulled it off.
