Things have changed so much in the last few years that I find it entertaining to see what people were advising a few years ago and questioning how this erroneous advice has affected them as well as the people who took this advice as gospel.
The "Get Inspired" episode is the only one I have seen that still seems particularly timely- maybe more so now than when this show aired. The stock picks in the other shows crack me up, and following their advice would have been detrimental at the least to your portfolio... I looked a few of the stock picks up for giggles:
HWAY: around $50 at the time of the show- now just over $10
UNH: also around $50 at show time- now just over $20 *
WAG: around $45 flat for a long time- now around $25
*For UNH if you had bought it at the time of the show and sold it in January of 2008 you would have mad a profit of around 20% for that six month time period- but only if you knew when to sell which is in my opinion more important than knowing how to buy yet is the most overlooked aspect of financial education.
