ok... that still doesnt change the fact that voice acting in the US is not nearly as respectable of a profession as in Japan... and that the Naruto dubs were pretty bad... and that naruto in general is pretty bad... recently they tried to save themselves by becoming more "serious" by doing a bunch of character killing... but in all respect... they should have just kept it at 1-2 seasons... not stretch the thing into a Ranma1/2 or Inuyasha.another thing about naruto, it appeals to the average american because the whiny annoying kid that is ostracized by the society is the main character (USA much?). its overly simplistic with very little REAL worth, besides creating more japanophiles and adding a very minute amount of knowledge about a foreign culture to the US watcher. another thing, it is one of the most overrated shows I have seen, having a cult following somewhat like haruhi. unfortunately, most of those that love naruto so much have no idea that almost all the other series of anime out there are more complex and deeper then having the "obnoxious stupid kid" run around making himself feel like he has worth to society.   See 11 other replies

oh... yea... you have the wrong idea then... just watch the subs for naruto, though its not that great of a show... it has decent voice acting (japanese wise), however, the english dub horrendously destroys the characters.
take for example, Kakashi, he is supposed to be a powerful guy without a care in the world, in the subs, he sounds bored all the time (which is how his personality is, dont believe me? read the manga), yet when I hear the english voice... oh god... he sounds like an sarcastic annoying guy, and the voice actor sounds like he has to strain himself...
usually the japanese voice actors have it dead on in emulating the characters. personality, I suspect that its because being a voice actor is a respected profession and many have large fan followings, another thing to take into account is the fact that its a REAL profession over in japan, its a full time job, doing research, getting gigs for both voice acting and possibly physical acting, with your manager constantly dragging you from one job to the next (one well known japanese voice actor who portrayed Itsuki in Air Gear, Kamakari, blacked out from exhaustion and had to be hospitalized, and because of that, they canceled Air Gear after 1 season, though im not sure whats the fate of the live action air gear). take for example, Aya Hirano (does the voice of Konata in Lucky Star, and Haruhi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), she has a giant fan base, and I personally think she does a great job at giving her characters the intended personality. the English voice actors once in a while hit it dead on (like in Cowboy Bebop, and Outlaw Star) but usually, they just dont feel like they really understand their characters and try to give the correct feeling to them.

I've seen the sub the new Naruto series on hulu and I never seen a Naruto sub befor and I've noticed they made the English and Japanes voices sound almost the same with the inflectionsand everything. So I would consiter that show having a very good dub.   See 11 other replies

unfortunately, its how the system works... the large majority of american anime fans are the ignorant "Narutard" type fans. I buy dubbed anime as well, but I never watch the dubbed versions if I know the dubbing is junk, and almost all the time, the dubbed anime i buy is only there so i can watch the subbed version on the DVDs so i can feel like im supporting the anime industry in some indirect way.the thing is, voice acting has improved over time for things from japan, like video games, but its largely the same when it comes to anime, the usual sarcastic sounding character that feels like they are straining themselves. in video games, the dubbing has improved, like MGS4, and Valkyria Chronicles.unfortunately, the ignorance of the general public outweighs the intelligence of the well informed.   See 11 other replies

Subs are not LEET give it a rest, the Japanese voice acting isn't better it's just Japanese. Sticking with subs of Japanese will only do one thing, decrease your sales to make "hard core" anime fans feel better. That is a large price to pay to make a small part of your fan-base happy, my advice don't do it. The fan-base Funi wants to reach speak English better make it in English if "LEET" anime fans want to watch subs, they can always watch this or other fan-subs. Don't use the "keep it true" argument, that's how companies go out of business and it almost never works. I watch fan-subs I BUY dubs.   See 11 other replies
