Involving if familiar story of the Chief coming to the aid of a long-time "friend"--a kewpie doll with high hair and a penchant for mumus--who's been receiving "vile, perverted" phone calls and hearing disembodied voices. Well, it was the late 60's, but Ironside thinks there may be foul play afoot anyway. It's not too hard to guess who might be behind it all, and no one really seems all that put out by the weird happenings--the lady in question, played by Betsy Jones-Moreland, is a study in slurry nonchalance--but it's still kind of fun to see them go through their paces. The prologue scene is especially delightful, as the Chief clearly thinks his late supper for two is gonna end with him getting a lap dance, and he shows he's brought his A-game by paraphrasing George S. Kaufman. Also noteworthy, or at least head-scratchingly odd, is the bit in the middle when Ed, Eve, and Mark interview the three drug test subjects: Just what the heck was going on with the shotgun shadowplay when Ed was questioning that Israel Sanchez dude? Anybody know what that's about?
