A chance encounter with an old officer buddy (Linden Chiles) who's moonlighting as a taxi driver drops Ed right into the middle of a narcotics scheme operating out of an automobile junk yard. The criminal operation itself isn't very involving, but it seems like it was meant to be secondary anyway to the predicament Ed and his friend find themselves in; suspended from the force and suspected of collusion in the drug ring. It's how each of the men respond to this crisis of reputation and what it says and proves about them as law enforcement professionals that's important here.
Chiles is appealing and his speaking cadence and delivery is interesting and kind of forcefully compels your attention to him, yet he also conveys an uncertainty and weakness of character that I'm not sure was him acting or is fundamental to the actor. He appeared in the season one episode "Force of Law" but after 10 months I remember nothing of him in it.
Redheads are in season in this epsiode, with Ed's date (Conny Van Dyke) at the beginning and, in a larger role, Judi Meredith as Chiles' character's material comfort-seeking wife. The unnatural vividness of her dye job almost distracts from her performance, but it didn't prevent me from noticing how clear and emphatic her speaking was in comparison to Eve's typical clenched-mouth mumbling in their scene together.There's a little bit of action at the end, and what I thought was a really close call for one of the characters at the junk yard. Even Eve gets to round up one of the bad guys, after a weird, leisurely, warning shot straight up in the air as if she were signalling the horses to commence running.
