A friend of Mark's makes a late-night, desperate call for his help, and is then abducted off the street...looking at her, I was wondering: was that genuine hair back then, in pre-weave 1969? A twisty tale with some real, well-developed suspense and more than a little dread concerning the possible fate of a missing movie star whose career has gone down hill after an initial success. There are some good naturalistic touches with the dialogue, including an odd scene with Mark and an informant that, if you squint, almost has an homoerotic vibe. This is an interesting story with mob elements and even an airflight thrown in, that doesn't go where you think it might...it starts out Mark-centric and then shifts in a different direction altogether. Very much a night-time, mood-driven piece. I liked the subdued lighting and sepia tones seen throughout.
The title comes from the name of the movie with which the missing starlet had her one commercial triumph.
