I love how each show begins with a famous quote to set up the plot line and Darien's feelings about the story as he narrates it.
It is a great way to introduce and then sew the story together. This particular
episode has a double entendre for the cross cultural, which may or may not be intentional. The Invisible Woman's Chinese boyfriend, may have a very common Chinese name, I don't know, as I am unfamiliar with that culture, but I do know that in Japan, the name means: the male variety of genitalia, or, more accurately, a somewhat poetic way of saying the same-like we say, "The Family Jewels", in referring to the value men place on their own personal treasures. The storyline, I believe, is about Darien finally utilizing his own "treasure" at last. On another level we are teased with the possibility that he might be able to find his equal, since they both are treasures for their countries because of the quicksilver, and to themselves because they have begun to appreciate that they are valued and valuable human beings over and above their obvious attributes. (Good looks, self-respect, love of friends, family, country, invisibility potential).
If, as he quotes at the beginning of this episode: "Vision is the art of Seeing the Invisible", then these two characters: The invisible man and woman, by finding each other, finally begin to really see and understand themselves and what they really value, and by doing so, have no choice but to seek their own path to "visibility" i.e. who they share themselves with and why it matters.
Oh, and the writers may have been setting up a story arc that brings The invisible woman back into the picture with an invisible baby perhaps? Spawn of Darien? I doubt Clare used birth control when she and Darien went on their quicksilver bender in an earlier episode. How 'bout Spawn of Darien 2? Anyone else out there find any inside jokes or not so obvious at first glance levels of storytelling here?
