I can't help but laugh over the whole Sub/Dub fight.
although I tend to prefer subs over dub on hulu or other video websites, I have a completely different reason than the typical Dub haters has.
my reasons are the following:
1) I'm deaf, so I need closed captioning or something close to it.
2)I have no speakers, or no sound on my PC. so even though I can actually listen to music with the help of hearing aids, and I could easily get myself some new speakers... there's times where I have difficulty telling apart actual spoken words and music/random sounds. so even though I enjoy music, I still need the subs.
I've watched a lot of dubs on TV though, with my hearing aids on. and I have to say, the dubbing's really improved over the years. it's not like the English Sailor Moon or even the badly Butchered one piece anymore. Ever watched Death note? The translations to English was spot on, nothing was cut out, etc... and the voices mostly matched.
So to me that shows that there actually can be excellent dubs out there, provided that you pair up the anime with the right dubbing company... one who knows how to get the voices close as possible, excellent translations, etc.
of course it still won't be 100% perfect, as seeing sometimes there's some Japanese jokes that don't translate well, or something like that. still it helps give the anime an wider variety of audiences, and that's a good thing right?
it's better to have somebody respond positively when you ask them what they thought of Black blood brothers, after they watched the dub for instance... instead of them staring at you blankly, going "what? Never heard of it. oh, it's not dubbed? no wonder why... I just get too confused with all the Japanese, and I'm a extremely slow reader when it comes to subs. so I never watch subbed anime."
one of my best friends has an reading problem, and as an result she depends on dubs strongly in order to be actually be able to enjoy the animes that I watch also.
even though I watch mostly subbed animes, the fact that she still watches the same anime as I do helps us bond. :P and plus it makes for great conversations when we mull over whenever anything was changed or not.
So I'm one of those people who watch Dubs with close captioning on TV, and only watch Subbed animes online.
