This show has been in my recommendations for a few months now. I hesitated to try it. The art is very different from other anime. The storyline seemed odd as well. I finally tried it (obviously).
Watching made my uneasiness drop away. The art is stylized even more than other shows. The quirkiness of it grew on me. As for the storyline, it falls across several genres. Not fully fantasy or paranormal adventure, not completely slice of life, it probably falls into urban fantasy. For this episode, the pace is mellow, with a lot of back story and tone establishing which does come off as a bit clunky. The slapstick also falls a little short. The song at the beginning was great (unlike a *lot* of anime intros.)
A mixture of flaws and unique qualities which hooked me by the end.
