In The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the main character Pecola is obsessed with having blue eyes. She is convinced that she can only be successful and happy if she eventually gets blue eyes, which is an unachievable goal. That particular reoccurring theme in book corresponds with this Dr. 90210 video clip because the woman is convinced that she needs to change certain parts of her body to achieve happiness. Although I am in no way against plastic surgery because I think that it is very important for each individual to do what they please in order to feel confident and beautiful, I think it should be done in moderation and with caution. It was exciting to see a person go out and get something that makes them happy, and not be afraid of the ridicule or controversial comments that people might say about their actions, in order to change the pace of their life and have a fresh beginning. I personally think that her plastic surgery improved her overall look, and since she was visibly happier, her whole appearance was altered for the best. A person should never become carried away with an unreachable goal that takes over every thought that goes through their mind and traps them in a mindset of disappointment. In the end of The Bluest Eye, Pecola truly believes that she has gotten blue eyes, but soon is unhappy again because she feels they are not the absolute bluest in the world. Although not the case in this specific episode, many people get carried away with plastic surgery, and what started as a minor touch up, turns into a total recreation of a person. The idea of chasing unreachable perfection turns into a vicious and ugly cycle that can never have a positive ending.
