Seriously...
I was expecting John Connor to be leading a resistance force... and I was expecting a battle between machines and humans...
Instead, we get a Lord of the Rings kind of drama. We get the two hobbits (Kyle Reese and the little girl) captured by the orks (the hunter-killer machines). Aragon and Legolas (John Connor and Marcus Wright) try to reach Sauron's tower before the two hobbits get killed.
Seriously, even the Skynet building looked like a magical tower from Lord of the Rings. The big machines reminded me of the big Trolls,
However, this movie did not get the fantastic battle scenes I had expected... The Lord of the Rings had way better action battles.
The problem with Terminator: Salvation, is that it relies too much on action sequences... and the actual plot is not original at all. The plot seems borrowed from The Lord of The Ring, The Matrix Revolutions, and Terminator: Judgment Day. T1 and T2 where excellent films because they brought original ideas and the special effects complemented the plot. In this film, the special effects seem to guide the plot.
Also... the main premise of the film... what makes a man, a man... and what makes a machine, a machine... was an issue that was address in T2. In T2, the Terminator played by Arnold started to become more and more human, almost to the point of feeling emotions. Now we have a human that despite being turned into a machine, was still human. It would have been a wonderful plot if the character had been developed. I mean... I didn't see any growth in the Marcus Wright character. He never struggled with the choice... he never felt machine... didn't even considered it... so in a way... the conflict was not even there. As a result, the character felt plain and tasteless; just a empty shell.
Oh... one last thing....
Seriously.... a heart transplant in a field hospital performed by a veterinarian??
Really?
