Personally, I just don't see the connection between Blue Gender and WW2. I get the connection between Star Wars and WW2: the Jedi's and the Republic are an allusion to the Allies and resistance fighters, while the Empire is an allusion to the Nazis, with the Imperial Stormtroopers being quite literally the Sturmabteilung, or just simply the Wehrmacht (armed forces). But with Blue Gender, it's a bit harder to argue that there's such a connection. Are the Blue supposed to be an allusion to the Nazis? Why even portray them as giant bugs? If the humans are meant to allude to the Allies, the benevolent protagonists in all of this, then why is there infighting amongst them? Given the strong post-apocalyptic theme running throughout the series, along with the constant "shadow" overhanging some of the episodes that humans may have somehow contributed to the Blue infestation, it would seem that (as another reviewer pointed out) the show is presenting a version of the Gaia Hypothesis.
