It really does not matter to me. If it is a fan dub i will nevr watch it because usally they suck. on hulu if they only offer like 5 dubbed episodes on a show with 20 or more eps i dont watch cause then you get used to one set of voices and have to switch. it all depends on the show, and where im watching the show when i pick between subbed or dubbed   See 20 other replies

I have to admit I am bias to subtitles because as it was said before it is about as close to original as it gets. Dubbed is alright and with some series it is interesting to hear sometimes. Both is alright I guess. I will admit though it is weird as hell if they get the voices right. You don't hear to many series that have vocals that sound the same. I think it was Tenchi Muyo that just used the same voice actors for both versions I could be wrong though   See 20 other replies

So I have watched anime both before and after I started studying Japanese and in the end, subs, no matter if it's an anime or foreign film, is better for me.Why?Simply because the anime and/or film was made in the original language. Lingual and tonal connotations are COMPLETELY missed in another language. Another and even bigger difference (that really gets to me in anime) is that for some reason, English dubs always FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. I don't know how many times I have to type this but it's almost ALWAYS true. I mean, the LEAST the English voice actors could do is pronounce the Japanese names correctly. It's just a matter of intonation and such! The only three animes I've EVER been able to stand the dubs for are Sailormoon (and that's because Usagi/Selena's voice in Japanese is so jfdklsjlsdkajflksdajglkadhglksjflkds high pitched I think I might DIE before my ears stop ringing), Dragonball (because Goku's Japanese voice is this TERRIBLE female voice actor which SOUNDS like a girl... please stop screaming KAMEHAMEYA PLEASE....>>and trust, there are SEVERAL female voice actors I ADORE for their "shounen" voices<<), and Gundam Wing (with Heero Yui, just because it was good in general in both languages). But there is some truth to this fact: English dubbers for Japanese anime feel that they need to "animate" their voices in a such a way that "suits" the Japanese voice too but that ends up mangling everything. But hell, the Japanese voice actors speak in (for the most part) NORMAL voices which is why it sounds so great. These weird, stunted speech styles from English dubbers are MORE than I can stand. Oh and if you think I hate English dubbers please check the three animes I mentioned above.In the end, please do listen/watch whatever version you like but I will always believe the ORIGINAL version (of whatever!) will be better.Also, a sample of FANDUBBING that's GREAT: Dragonball PARODY (www.teamfourstar.com)   See 20 other replies
