Starting off the show and going through it up to Gordon eating, all I've been hearing about were problems and reputation. There didn't seem to be any passion in the business.
During and After Gordon ate, revealed that there was no passion from the cook. A person not tasting his own food that he sends to customers is not a chef, not a real cook, and does not have any passion for his work.
Opening up an Italian restaurant without having Italian experience does not show any passion for his training. In fact his reason for opening up a new restaurant was to mainly BECOME HIS DOWN BOSS AND MAKE A LARGER PROFIT instead of taking what he's learned and put his own heart into it. The guy made it seem like working for others was a pain and that is not a good reason to open a restaurant. He's doing it for money.
Gordon could see that there was only a small chance of success, and didn't seem too passionate on helping out before he saw the kitchen. In Gordon's own words at 16:20, "When a Chef lets go of the business like this, it proves he doesn't care". The beginning of the end was signified at 17:40 when the guy says he USES staff and seals his fate at 18:16 when he doesn't feel a thing or react at the conditions of his kitchen. This guy is only in it for the profit and I wouldn't want to get served by some wad like this that doesn't care about his restraunt.
Don't get me wrong. The father guy didn't care either. Whenever someone rejected the food, he asked "Do you want another" instead of simply saying he would fix it. He made it seem like he was asking if they wanted more of the same ruined crap.
What did this guy want? He wasn't a team player, thought his reputation was the most important and was set in his ways. Did all he want was for Gordon to redecorate his restaurant and call it a day? That's actually what ended up happening.
The rest of the show was just fake after the guy talked to Gordon after he walked out. You could tell that Ramsey didn't want to help, but was most likely paid alot to stay with these guys. It was actually kind of a pain to watch Ramsey without the true passion and fire in him, WANTING to help this place out.
However, Gordon did GOOD getting back at them. He embarassed them by having them milk a cow. (They retaliated by locking Gordon out. j/k)
Gordon didn't help out in the kitchen at ALL. No words of encouragement, no directions, no stepping in. He just STOOD and WATCHED them fail until the fire alarm went off. It actually saved Anthony somewhat because he was on his way towards losing it.
The couple stresses over their relationship, not good.
I'm one of the few that are a bit torn whenever Ramsey re-decorates a restraunt because I do not think all the different owners have really earned a free pleasantry quite yet. These people obviously didn't deserve it. Thankfully, Gordon spends very little in terms of tidying the place up. The chairs are the same, the tables are the same, and they're just using a projector as a gimick attraction.
And the reaction of the family... they were jumping for joy like their problems and worries were over. It looked cool so it just HAD to bring in customers, right?
Gordon invited a magazine food critic to come on the first recovery night. Something that doesn't happen unless Gordon has the confidence in a restraunt. He didn't and perhaps hoped it would show the world the truth of the restaraunt.
The mother looked BAD in that single shoulder strap dress she wore, and everyone seemed to be forcing to order the food. Everyone was only concerned with the critic, which Gordon had fun with, because he told them that any table would've had the critic until she finally appeared. Again, Anthony was about to go insane until he heard the real critic came.
The last straw happened when the owners got what they want without learning anything. They only treated those that would benefit them well and left the other customers with crap.
And that's when Gordon pulled the biggest F.U. out on Anthony. He knew the couple was having problems, we saw the couple was having problems and there seemed to be no issues to try and fix family after Gordon threatened to quit. Ramsey gave Anthony a SILVER RING and told him to go propose as if everything was all hunky dory. To be honest, if Ramsey had any respect for Anthony, he'd stay out of any wedding plans and let Anthony go at his own pace. He'd also congratulate the whole family on the turn around and say how proud he was, but instead forced something that wasn't ready.
40:20 shows Gordon BS explanation on why Anthony should go ahead with the whole thing and it's a great pre-trainwreck because you know that nothing was really fixed.
41:45 Ramsey's goodbye F.U., forcing the couple to get married (Who would say no? They're on national TV?) and letting them and their failing restraunt continue to spiral downwards (who cares if they got one good review, if people complain, the critic could come back and reclaim that it turned horrible).
In the end, Ramsey suffered through the episode but came out on top. By not respecting Anthony and family, embarass them with a little milk, and forcing a couple into marriage when their future is not that bright or stable is the delicious icing on a revenge filled cake.
I hate Fox for putting Ramsey through that crap and editing it to make it appear like it turned out well, but thank Ramsey for using hidden methods to show that he didn't care.
