I enjoy how people who believe Light is mindlessly evil also assume everyone else has to agree with them on all counts. That's precisely how the show divides up its audience.As far as a backup plan... eh... maybe so. Hell, he did have his watch paper, so there actually was a backup plan. He never imagined, I'll bet, that he'd get shot by the goody-two-shoes characters that were so set on taking him in alive. Also the entire point of the close of this arc was to show that he'd grown overconfident in his abilities and, more importantly, had become lazy in delegating his responsibilities out to followers that were not as reliable as himself.Intuition and brute force caught him, but they didn't beat him. I love how controversial the death of L was... People either love Light or hate him, but everyone seems to appreciate L, and when he died a lot of people stopped watching the show. I think it's a shame... Though the new characters seemed hastily pulled together in L's aftermath, the way the show ends is poetic and appropriate for all involved. M and N aren't amazing characters but they represent the brute force and intuition that L didn't use.   See 6 other replies
