I just don't understand how people can cheer for Light when he was willing to kill his sister and let his father die if only it would secure him victory. It was a complete front, he acted like he wanted world peace but more then anything I think he just wanted to sit on his throne and play God.I liked Light in the beginning but as soon as he started killing innocent people, people who were not criminals, I started to switch sides. But, no one can argue that his 'original' philosophy isn't ideal. It's just not realistic and a psychopath like him never could have carried it out. Loved the series though. I was rooting for Light, only because I wanted the series to continue and with the death of Light is the end of the series.
In my mind, I wanted Light to win against Mello & Near (I didn't like them at all), and have another story arch featuring the World of Kira, with an epic ending portraying the world of Kira being toppled by everyone facing their fears of death by Kira, and resolve to take down the tyranny of Kira, to destroy the "artificial peace via fear." The ending sequence would be of Light in absolute desperation taking the Shinigami eye deal and frantically writing the names of everyone who was charging towards him, with hundreds of people dying, but by the end Light is apprehended due to the overwhelming masses of people who realized that "peace via fear" is not true peace, and at that point Ryuk would write Light's name in his Death Note.
Oh well... the actual ending was poetic justice I suppose.   See 30 other replies

that's a pretty bad idea for two major reasons !. your personality dose not change, you just loose memory's of having the death note but your desires still stay 2.if he gave up his memory's right then, ryuk would have taken the death note and left and light still would have been convicted.....and besides that N could see ruyk standing behind light the entire time.if light really wanted to get away he wold have let them arrest him and let them drive him to headquarter's or wherever they were going to take him and while in the car , use the hidden note in his watch to kill everyone their while there backs are turned and everyone driving in separate cars......nuff said   See 3 other replies
