Thoroughly enjoyed watching this series when it first came out 35 years ago, am enjoying it again now because I haven't remembered one of the episodes yet. (the female co-stars, yes, details on the episodes, no) So much for the power of recall. This 2-parter had it's share of goofs -
>>> @8m45s there's 38-sec on bomb timer when Rocky and Jim are discussing lobster bisque, but @8m54s the watch is back to 32-sec as Rockford opens door to walk to diner. Darn cheap mafia knockoff watches.
>>> I counted 4 to 5 sticks of dynamite yet the car wasn't blown apart- doors are only slightly ajar, trunk's still closed, no flames or debris seen under car. I know they made cars out of real metal back then (I owned a couple) but still. For the concussion wave to have gone backwards with sufficient force to knock them down, you'd think the trunk might have at least been popped.
>>> When assassins are willing to use dynamite in a police parking lot, who in their right minds would leave the police station for an isolated mobile home and leave Rocky's truck parked nearby all night? Considering the inept beach patrols, hit men could have easily planted another bomb in the truck, or crawled underneath the trailer and planted several devices, or simply machine gunned/firebombed the trailer in the dark.
>>> Rockford gets off 2 rounds and wounds one of the thugs trying to KILL his dad. Instead of simply watching them limp down the hill, why not pursue and take a few more shots at them? Might have saved the taxpayers some money.
>>> Shotgun blasts from the chase car punch tight holes in Rocky's truck's rear window but the pellets don't damage the windshield or riccochet around inside hitting Rocky and Jim?
>>> Nobody suspected the "respectable scam" involved stealing truck cabs, especially when the trailers were found and not even the munitions had been stolen? How incompetent does police security have to be to allow drivers into a "secured" facility without checking more than just the bills of lading? An anomalous 4-hour change in schedule should have been a warning flag. I liked Joe Santos' character, but he really is a flake.
