I enjoyed it very much. Very good portrayal of a people subjected to a ruthless bully, Trujillo, and his pig torturers, who ruled with fear, like many other rulers around that time, Franco in Spain, Salazar in Portugal, dictators that ruled for 50 yrs., each. They made the laws, they improsened many for little reason and killled for less, throw you in jail for cheering "to freedom". You had no voice. Sadly, this is about a small Caribbean island...the sisters being the central characters here. I did not read the book, but the movie is very good, if my father were alive, he would relate to a lot of it, in Europe. I agree with another comment here, that in the U.S. many are so quick to bad mouth our government, our way of life; I say go live somewhere else for just a little while and you will be dying to get back home and your freedoms that you so take for granted; just being able to say anything you want, do anything. Yes, since 9/11 things have changed, it is necessary , because of what terrorists did to us. I do not feel animosity towards our authorities because of it...I welcome it. I still enjoy my many freedoms, unlike many, in many parts of the World. Watch the movie!
