I've liked the focus they're giving on Bob lately. He's probably one of the best written characters with Asperger's ever depicted. Writers usually dump all the stereotypical traits on a single autistic character or make them into a poor version of Rain Man. Yes, Bob *is* a genius, but he's also surrounded by people just as brilliant. The actor really has the mannerisms down without making his character seem like a walking cliche. The writers of ReGenesis obviously realize that those with AS have emotions and are human, but react differently to the world than most people. (Don't even get me started on the ones where those with AS are depicted as lacking *any* feelings or kindness. Please writers of the world, research things.)
This is refreshing and welcome. Usually I prepare myself for cringing whenever an autistic character is in a work of fiction. The character will be either 1-the "magical r*tard" dispensing life lessons and "inspiration" (probably by accident), 2-the cold genius who must be taught the meaning of friendship, or (less commonly these days) 3-a complete social deviant no better than a monster. Terrible.
P.S. Writers, directors, actors, etc, please take a tip from this show. Autistic people shouldn't be a source of "magical" inspiration or character growth for the "normals". Write them as they are: human beings.
