A Very moving Description of a Very Polarizing Choice. I can't help but think the choices Made in this Episode are distinctly Canadian- I doubt many Americans would feel this was the right choice and certainly Our Laws would forbid such a thing.
I personally believe Everyone should be able to choose Death for themselves when Life's Suffering becomes intolerable.
In This Portrayal, tho- I feel that this Child was Just beginning to emerge From hell, just beginning to have the world know he was alive and aware inside; just beginning to for social bonds again. I Honestly think if i were in the position to make a similar choice, i would first address his depression, then talk to him and provide global therapy for a long while, and then, at a future date and time, revisit the issue. I think perhaps the decision to grant him his wish to die was made too soon.
Having said that, Physician assisted suicide and caregiver/spouse assisted suicide should NOT be illegal and criinally prosecuted in Any country- and shame on our government for thinking they have the right to legislate this very Personal- The most ultimate and profoundly personal choice one Has.
I'm curious if Americans are more hard nosed about this issue- wildly opposed to euthanasia- or if this is simply my Perception of my fellow Country Persons...
I'd like to hear Canadian and American points of view.
