I normally find this show entertaining, but not particularly engrossing. This episode however was an exception. I guess the show really does accurately reflect life on a carrier. Not much really happens, there are long stretches of monotony broken up by sudden episodes of wild action. While the weird ritual was a bit odd, I found the dancing marine and the final scene with the jets landing on the carrier in wild seas fascinating. The show is well produced and edited, as I felt a real sense of suspense in that final sequence. Watching that retiring major nail that landing ice cold was a rush even for me watching. Well done PBS.
I do wish they would have followed the disciplinary action taken against the guy who ran across the flight deck. I bet that would have been entertaining.
