Sorry, but it is absolutely believable- You have any idea the amount of millionaire lottery winners that end up on welfare? A big percentage.Part of the reason this happens is because of what you're doing right now.... assuming that the money is a lot. That's what happens to lottery winners. A couple of years back I remember an interview in the local paper of a woman who won 1.5 million in the lottery and she was talking about all the things she was going to do with that money, including taking care of her 13 grandchildren and her kids and her buying a house and going on vacations and buying a car...etc, etc... If she actually bothered to do the math behind all that, she'd know that 1.5 million can't cover all that especially after taxes. One million dollars isn't a lot of money anymore- it's not enough to cover even ONE person's lifetime expenses let alone a huge family. That's likely what happened to Emily- She thought half a million was a huge amount of money which it isn't and before she knew it, she blew it all. Not all lotto winners fall into that trap of thinking it's a lot of money though- I remember reading about this farmer who won a million dollars in the lotto. He spent most of it on getting updated farm equipment and more acres of land so he could continue to work but more efficiently and make more money- so when the money ran out he was still able to make a better living than he did before. Here's an example of someone who REALLY understood how far a million dollars will get you and knew that he would still have to work to make a living.
