I'm not a fan of hers but I love that SNL is defending Lana Del Rey. I know some have issue with the whole bullying thing they said given the fact that she did in fact perform badly and that the performance should be criticized. Well, people weren't constructively criticizing as much as bashing so... makes sense to me.

At first I thought that this was really funny. The bit with the names was amusing and so were the musical guests mentioned. But once they got to the whole bullying issue... that just turned me off completely. People (at least smart, reasonable human beings. can't speak for the internet trolls and what not) weren't criticizing her for being weird (or almost special, as this skit would like you to think), they were criticizing her for her inability to sing. Saying that this is like bullying is wrong. Also, implying that people can't criticize any action of another is just unreasonable. There are standards for everything for a reason; saying that everyone is a special flower no matter what they do just leads to gross underachievement. Lana's performance was not good SNL, stop trying to justify your choice to bring her on the show.and lana is a complete marketing ploy, there's nothing indie or special left about her.

This skit makes me think of the main Heather from the movie Heathers. If you disagree with anything they say or do, they'll go out of their way to make you feel like you're an idiot. Lana Del Ray isn't distant and weird. It's a gimmick. I feel sorry for anyone that watches this and hears Lana Del Rey compared to Bob Dylan and thinks, "you know, snl has a point here."Probably the worst sketch I've seen on the show due to it's "message' and lack of laughs...

Even though I am not a fan of hers, I don't hate her. The skit was funny indeed, although the idea of trying to defend her because people were trashing on her is odd. Comparing her to other artists can be taken the wrong way.

Gotta love when SNL's in-house smart aleck gets to dedicate three minutes of his "bit" to justifying the show's choice of a totally baffling and embarrassing musical act.Watching this again I'm not sure what SNL was trying to do. Obviously by bringing up the musicians who've changed their names and pointing out other terrible (albeit still better) acts they've had on the show they seem to be trying to justify their having Del Rey on. Then she follows up by saying we should mock everyone different from us or weird -- which isn't that what Seth's segment is basically designed to do? (Different to SNL being anyone whose views fall to the right of their typical Hollywood "standard.") Esquire magazine recently tried to sell the idea that SNL is pretty good today -- they must have been watching re-runs from the early 90s.
