Hello, Km Ph. I watch a lot of Asian TV shows and movies, as well. Regarding your perspective on the depiction of Asian females as being super-virtuous; this is not an issue for me. My issue is the depiction of them as immature, almost childish. Perhaps we are talking about the same thing here. but using different words? I have no issue with virtue, but I do have an issue with 20-30 yr. old women being portrayed as 15 year olds (or younger!).
Since I am white, I can not speak for Asian women of any age but as far as this episode goes, I thought the actress realistically portrayed the character. Your other point is well-taken: Asian film and television seem to be taking on a more western attitude. While I understand that has more to do with marketing than anything else, I would hate to see Asian culture subjugated to a Hollywood make-over. The reason I watch Asian TV and movies is because of the diverse cultures represented on that single continent.. I believe the Chinese and Korean studios turn-out as good a product (sometimes better) than Hollywood. (I do watch some Japanese and Thai film as well, but my favorites are Korean and Chinese.)   See 31 other replies
