Disclaimer: I'm old enough to remember, as a kid, when these movies seemed 'futuristic, so don't think I'm just panning it. it was fun to 'go back!!
That being said:
Opening scene: I immediately thought-

I also learned:
1. In 1975, space-capsules 'will' have high ceilings, 'Lazy-Boy' recliners and three rooms! They also carry women's-wear(in the right size) in case of last-minute crew changes.(pun intended!)
2. Astronauts will wear motorcycle helmets!
3. Space ships change shape!
4. Aluminum foil reduces radiation to five percent!(but only until the plot requires higher levels- to threaten sterility!)
5. Space-junk is your friend, and the Russians made really good batteries!
6. Venus DOES NOT want visitors

According to this movie, the space program is full of men who'd kill each other before the first month would pass.'Let's not tell that one gal the reason she's on this flight. She doesn't need to know that the Earth is going to blow up.' Sheesh.With a little effort, they could have had a decent movie. One with a real plot, and a logical ending.Besides that, there aren't many governments that would pull that sort of stunt. Fanatical individuals, but not governments.

I am afraid to admit I actually watched the entire thing. The last ten minutes seemed to gone on for ten thousands minutes.
