So many war movies are one sided and only portray our troops as heroes. I really enjoyed this movie because it shows all sides & how they affect each other.
I liked "Jarhead" because it showed how boring war can be for some troops. I really liked "Restrepo" because it was real & we got to see how the war affected the troops in the end, after all the gung-ho macho attitude wore off. I liked "The Green Zone" because we got to see how our troops get lied to get them on-board for a war we probably should not have gotten into. I also liked "Hurt Locker" because it helped me understand how our troops end up feeling isolated from home & feel a strong sense of duty to each other.
I Loved this movie because we also get to see how it affects the Iraqis and why they can't rat on the insurgents or feel like we are doing them a favor. It also illustrates how our government can hang a soldier out to dry after we've turned them into a psycho killer & can't understand why some of them just go off when the pressure gets unbearable.
While I understand how some of the one-star reviewers could view this movie as some "liberal B.S." movie, I guess that's what being liberal is; trying to see something from both sides. If you're a left leaning Liberal, then the media appears to be run by corporations that censor the truth. If you are a right leaning Conservative, then anyone that doesn't agree with your point of view 100% is a "Communist Looser"
I'm not sure I want to live in a world where I get all my news from Fox and all the war movies are basically propaganda films designed to get people to enlist for the cause.
Not every war movie can be a "Saving Private Ryan" or a "Schindler's List". Most are fictionalized to a certain degree. You want to see a fictional gung-ho, right wing one sided movie, go see "Act of Valor". Yea, that really happened.
