'Old West Legendary Figure Meets Famous Movie Monster' is a sure sign the film is going to be - at most - 'B' Grade (or that a franchise has hit a low point).
This is a 'C' Grade. Or maybe I'm being generous.
We have the insult of a village helpless against a handful of UNARMED foreigners. There seems to be plenty of circumstantial evidence against Frankenstein's daughter and her household, and no explanation of why the locals don't go to the sheriff (or whatever law enforcement is there). So it becomes up to the Anglo outlaw hero Jesse James to rescue the Mexicans from these non-American intruders.
Native Americans for the obligatory 'rescue the girl' moment. Standard fare at the time, bit on the cringe-worthy side, now.
Insult aside, perhaps the most ridiculous part of this movie is that Frankenstein's daughter replaces the sidekick's BRAIN with her artificial creation, yet he still recognizes a woman who was nice to him, and his friend. That's not how things work. Maybe if she'd replaced half of his brain.
The acting is mostly competent-to-good, which is a relief. The actor playing the sheriff actually had a career, and some may recognize him from the series 'Dallas.'
It wouldn't have taken much to take this concept and make a competent film out of it, rather than this silly absurdity.
