Some of the stuff in here falls flat and others just seem incredibly silly. I mean, what sort of person demands legal action be taken when a dog stops barking? Isn't that a good thing? I would say that the owner was upset that his dog had been hurt, however, seeing the situation the dog was in, I beg to differ. On top of that, some of the jokes aren't all that funny. "Wow, she kind of looks like you." "Do I really look that faded and cracked?" Yeah, sorry, not all that funny. And the characters seem cliche. Cassie is the insightful "witch" who seems to know everything, with a "magic touch", and she speaks in riddles that leave the characters confused. Martha is the antagonist that dislikes Cassie because of her quirky, strange ways and wants her out because she's a threat to her (or she just dislikes her for her quirkiness). Kyle is way too reminiscent of every other movie bully; give me your money or I'll hurt your or your sister and he's even got the abusive father to go with it. I mean, if Cassie were simply insightful rather than all-knowing (think of Monk or Sherlock), I could forgive it and would enjoy it much more. I know every person's come across someone they don't like, but how many of us really try to bring that person down like Martha does? I mean, she hardly knows Cassie and doesn't even try to get to know her before she tries to bring her down. She needs more of a motive other than just simple distaste. With Kyle, I would just like to see a bully whose a little more original. Not all bullies are that way because of an abusive parent or absent parent. Yes, the story arc works here but, again, its just so cliche.
How long did it take them to get from their house to school? With the change between scenes, it almost seemed like a few hours. Then they arrive at school and everyone's showing up. Yeah, I may be looking too much into it but it felt like it took them a looong time to get to school...even without the dog scene.
Yes...she's a witch because she told you not to think about bunnies before bed. That's the very first conclusion you jump to? Okay, maybe for a kid, but even a ten year old wouldn't come to that conclusion.
Wait, wait...she dressed up and prepared dinner in the hopes that he would randomly show up? Really?
And nobody loves generic candy. Seriously, who wrote in a girl saying "I love these"? Most kids I knew liked name brands like Snickers and KitKats and the like.
I did find the scene with the oils very amusing. Its another cliche, but I did enjoy how she made the kids realize that they can change things on their own...even if they didn't realize it themselves, as well as the whole story with Kyle. I also thought it was cute when she turned around to look in the mirror to say "I will not dream of Jake Russel". A word on the name thing; I really liked this. Pagans don't like to give out their real name to random strangers, however, I don't think a lot of them practice this as it an have problems down the road. Even so, it was refreshing to see. Haha! Loved hearing him tell her about swapping the tapes when he was younger! That would have been an awesome prank! Overall, even if the story is cliche and a total rip off of "Chocolat" and "Practical Magic", it is enjoyable to watch
