This movie attempts to convince young black people that they should feel inferior because their distant ancestors used to be mistreated. It's this sort of self-pity that convinces each new generation to insist that everything bad in their lives is a result of racism. Racism has been dead in this country for many many years, it's time to quit moaning about it and start trying to better yourself through your own choices and actions.

very nice movie and very educational and interesting. for the ones who see it as reverse racism can stop pulling the race card

But it's just like males to discredit women. Per the Orange County Register, not sure what year it was, but long ago it was a "woman" skimming the water on a piece of wood. She was arrested and thought to be a witch. Then men go on to write history.Having grown up in Huntington Beach, there were many Mexican surfers, just because there weren't that many blacks didn't mean there was racism. Not that many blacks fly the American flag on July 4th either. What's that about?Blacks don't use skate boards either, is that our fault?

What I thought would be a revealing documentary about the history of people of color and surfing morphed into a revisionist history and reverse racism. At the outset one surfer in sunglasses and a red tank top mentions Captain Cook violating his "mandate" of non-interference with the natives by "killing everywhere he went" but failed to mention that Cook himself was murdered by the natives and encountered hostility and violence throughout his Pacific adventures. I gave up short of half-way through this garbage history when the narrator recounts the first Portuguese traders to the African coast and the "enslavement of millions of Africans to follow". I quote an historian from my college days, "Imagine the surpirse of the Portuguese traders who arrived at the Ivory Coast to find all the institutions of slavery already in place!" White people did not bring slavery to Africa as this revisionist garbage history suggests.
This is a shame for it had the opportunity to bring better understanding of a necessary subject but would better be shown at the annual "Kill a Haole Week " they still celebrate in Hawaii.
