The director of this film, Sergei Bodrov, and several of the lead Russian actors are highly regarded in Russia and have done some excellent film work. This, I had high expectations for this film. However, it seems like something was lost in translation ( I mean this both literally and figuratively). The film just did not seem to be as believable and solid enough to really carry along the plot well, keeping the film from holding together well. Perhaps it was a rush job, a lack of money or it was difficult for Bodrov to make his first film in a foreign language and culture (it's his first as far as I know). Nonetheless, I give it three stars because it's not horrible, and it does try to express an interesting story.
Unfortunately, the lack of subtitles only makes it hard to enjoy the movie. I was pretty sure that subtitles or CC for the parts with Russian dialogue weren't available. If this is the case, Hulu is falling down on the job.
