Vanilla Sky was crap compared to this great movie.. Open Your Eyes was a great movie.. the drama was first rate and the story was good. I have seen this movie 2 times and I thought it was well acted and just overall was first rate. Unfortunately, someone wanted to make a remake and call it for reasons I have no clue of. Vanilla Sky. What a waste of film, however, I wil say that Cameron Diaz was quite convincing as the jealous girlfriend she was the only good thing.
The only link between the old and new movie is Penelope Cruz.. she really must have needed the money to have agreed to appear in the inferior remake... I dont recommed Vanilla Sky but do highly recommend Apre Los Ojos(Open Your Eyes) As a side NOTE:

This film was done in 1997? Well I am glad I saw it now and never saw Vanilla Sky. It's an age old lesson that arrogance will never reap a good reward. So the good looking self-assured one must now rely on perception from true spirit and forget the life he led before the facially disfiguring accident. Because of the Spanish subtitling, I needed to see this twice to really get some of the fine points, and I challenged myself to learn to catch more Spanish without looking at the English. It's a film worth seeing three times, especially if you view good films from different perspectives as writers, photographers and actors do. I also adore watching Ms. Cruz. The language of Spain is so different from other Spanish-speaking countries. The "s" is softened with a "th".

I had seen Vanilla Sky. But it's just different enough so as not to ruin it when you see open your eyes, which is a MUCH better movie.

Interesting that the original Spanish version, in Spanish, makes much more sense than the English version remake Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise.
