...that will keep you guessing right up to the very end. A great ensemble cast with many faces familiar to lovers of Japanese cinema, bring both comedy and pathos to their scenes. The director does a great job of keeping up the dramatic tension. Towards the end of the film an old man states something to the effect of "You have to be nasty to get ahead in life." The young woman listening to his story states "But everyone gets what's coming to them in the end." That seems to be the real struggle in this black and white caper film: do we get just what is coming to us; can we get away with crimes; does greed take over when everyone is left to pursue their own desires. Best scene: the "wimp" takes care of Yamamoto......
