Ummm.... maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge an entire group of people based on a movie or personal anecdote? That doctor who treated your son was an pr*ck. Don't let one experience skew your perception so dramatically. If not for science, life expectancy would still be in the 40's. If not for scientific discovery, you can say good-bye to antibiotics, vaccines, and all those drugs society has come to depend upon. Polio, smallpox, measles, tetanus--the list goes on. Sure, one can argue that we're too dependent on drugs, and that abuse is rampant, but without them, mortality would shoot sky high. Stuff you normally wouldn't be afraid of could be lethal without modern medical technology/treatment.
