According to the description this school is one of the poorest in the Bronx, NY. This schools program and curriculum is all encompassing. They cover everything, not just music. The arts are what draw children in and get them interested in learning and excited.
Usually in most public schools the first things to go when a budget gets cut is arts and sports. Lets face it, these are the activities that inspire kids to do better and work harder. This is what makes this documentary so great. I know it was made in 1993. I wonder what is going on with this school currently.
I also liked how the parents had to be involved with the school in order for their children to attend. This is a must. You can't just send your kids off to school and hope. You have to be involved in their education along with the teacher staff and the counselors. Especially in poorer neighborhoods. This school is a model that can be built upon. Of course nothing is perfect. But still there is hope, knowledge and skill and talent and confidence being built into these children from the poorest part of New York.
That is a good thing. God bless those children, teachers and parents.
