Kind of a lame version of the Book Battle Royale I think.

This is a low budget, shallow, teens can conquer anything movie. Nicole Kidman plays a supporting character with limited screen time. The about 20 year old Kidman is a high school 'almost bad girl' that has very little chance to do more than yell at a teacher or kiss a boy once. The back drop to the story is obtuse; I could not tell if the school is for gifted or troubled teens, if the world is post-apocalyptic or just dirty, or why a teenage boy lives in a huge loft above a bar that is frequented by the high school students. If I had to guess a writer watched The Karate Kid and then Blade Runner in the same night and then wrote this screen play.The R rating seems unneeded when compared to movies in 2011; there is only limited violence and a few vague references to some kind of performance enhancing drug. A drug dealer does die due to a blow to the face.
