Brigitte Bardot is one of the most beautiful women ever to appear in a film, but she is also a terrific comedic actress. In LA PARISIENNE, she portrays Brigitte, the daughter of a French diplomat, who falls in love with the dashing, womanizing Henri, her father's chief of staff. She is intent on snaring the man she loves and will go to great efforts in order to be alone with him. Henri thwarts all of her advances, even as she sneaks in to his room late one night wearing a flimsy negligee. But Brigitte remains steadfast. She will not stop trying to obtain Henri's love. Eventually the two do marry after being suspected of sleeping together. Marriage only complicates the relationship as both parties feel the other is having an affair. In Brigitte's case, she is suspected of having an affair with Prince Charles (no, not that Prince Charles), portrayed by Charles Boyer. Bardot can turn from vulnerable to combative or from loving to scheming in the wink of an eye. And her scenes with an older, dashing Boyer are wonderful. Boyer's entrance towards the second half of the film only heightens the comedy. Henri first suspects Brigitte and then hilariously thinks there simply is no way for her to have an affair because it takes time and practice.
Best scene: Bardot plays a maid. While waiting on her husband and his mistress, the mistress takes up Brigitte's cause. A fun, light, sexy, romp and dig that 1950's art deco apartment......
